June 8 – Gunflint Lake Sunset
The day gently fades away as serene hues of magenta and orange paint a tranquil picture across Gunflint Lake in northeast Minnesota. In photography, you can’t plan this scene; it just happens.
For a short time, as the sun slips below the distant hills, everything seems to pause and catch its breath before the short summer night settles over the Northland.
The colors reflect softly in the calm water, doubling the beauty of the sky and bringing a quiet peace to the landscape. The evening chorus slows—the tree frogs pause their singing, and an occasional firefly drifts through the damp air like a floating spark. A gentle stillness descends, the kind that only exists at the edge of a quiet northern lake during sunset.
“He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters.” — Psalm 23:2
True peace and serenity are found beyond this beautiful scene, as we are invited to look deeper—to the One who brought together sky, water, light, and silence for His glory and our quiet enjoyment.
