Northern Lights

January 18 – The Big Dipper in the Northern Lights

Day 18 of 365

The Aurora Borealis flickered to life above a snow-covered landscape, washing the northern sky in soft green light. Calm winds and a silent forest deepened the mystique on this sub-zero January night, as the familiar stars of the Big Dipper hovered quietly above the glow.

The sun emits charged particles that interact with Earth’s magnetic field, creating the Northern Lights high above the winter sky.

The blend of frozen Earth, starlit sky, and moving light declares the glory of God in this January scenery in the northern forest.

“Yours is the day, Yours also the night; You have established the heavenly lights and the sun. You have fixed all the boundaries of the Earth; You have made summer and winter.” — Psalm 74:16–17

It is humbling to realize that God is at work, painting the sky whether anyone is watching or not. When we take the time to look up, His creation offers the soul peace, perspective, and quiet assurance.
