April 3 – Making Headway

Day 93 of 365

Thick lake ice slows the Lakers as they leave the Duluth Canal and press toward open water, often with the steady assistance of the Coast Guard.

Each year brings its share of ice cover. The journey out onto Lake Superior is rarely effortless in early spring. Steel hulls grind forward through frozen resistance, progress measured not in miles, but in persistence. Even when movement feels slow, it is still forward.

Spring does not rush its arrival. It advances gradually, pushing winter back one day at a time. The ships make headway the same way we do — steadily, patiently, refusing to turn back.

Progress in life often feels like this. One step at a time. One faithful decision at a time. What seems immovable today will eventually yield to steady effort.

“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9

Time moves forward whether we notice it or not. Today will soon be part of the past. Make headway while you can. Press on. Treasure the gift of this day.
