Waves

April 16 – Sentinels in the Gales

Day 106 of 365

For more than a century, these Duluth lighthouses have stood watch over the harbor, enduring every kind of weather Lake Superior can unleash. In this scene, towering waves surge forward and explode against the breakwall, wind and water merging into a single, relentless force.

During powerful spring storms, sustained gale winds stack the waves higher as they drive toward the harbor entrance. Brown, churning water reveals the lake’s raw strength. Each crashing surge pounds the concrete, yet the lights remain steady — fixed points in the middle of chaos.

The contrast is unmistakable. The waves are wild, irregular, and fierce. The structures are grounded, steadfast, and unshaken.

“He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed.” — Psalm 107:29

Storms in life can feel just as overwhelming — testing our footing and shaking our confidence. But like these sentinels in the gale, we are not meant to stand on our own strength. When we anchor our foundation in Christ, we can stay steady through the fiercest winds.

Stand firm. The storm will pass.
