Amnicon

April 30 – Springtime in the Forest

Day 120 of 365

The Amnicon River, flowing through Amnicon Falls State Park south of Superior, Wisconsin, rushes with melting snow from the inland snowpack. The cold water tumbles over ancient volcanic basalt and sandstone on its way toward Lake Superior, while an early morning frost melts from the trees as the rising sun warms the forest.

The Amnicon River runs about 45 miles from its headwaters in Douglas County before reaching Lake Superior. Within the park, the river splits around a small island, creating Upper Falls and Lower Falls—two beautiful cascades only a short walk apart.

This quiet park is a perfect escape into the wilderness for an hour or a day, offering refreshment for both body and soul.

“Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” — John 7:38

The sweet scent of pine needles covering the forest floor filled the air, mingling with birdsong and the constant rush of water. Take a walk today if you can. Moments like this remind us to slow down and enjoy the beauty of God’s creation.
