January 29 – Moonshine at gooseberry Falls

The frozen waterfalls at Gooseberry Falls State Park look much different when bathed in the moonlight of a full January moon.

On a cold, clear January night with fresh snow on the ground, moonlight can feel dramatically brighter than usual — even though it’s still hundreds of thousands of times dimmer than daylight. Fresh snow reflects up to 90% of incoming light, acting like a giant mirror, and a camera sensor with a slow shutter speed easily captures this light into striking imagery.

The evening’s quiet is broken only by the occasional hoot of an owl and the muted bubbling of the Gooseberry River, which is still moving beneath the ice and snow.

What you see when you walk outside under the light of a full moon is incredible. What you see under the light of the Gospel far outshines anything else.
