July 8 – Emerald Waters – Apostle Island Sea Caves
The Apostle Islands lie just offshore from the Bayfield Peninsula on Lake Superior. Over time, wind and water have carved the sandstone into a network of sea caves—visited by boat in summer and crossed on skis when winter seals them in ice.
Inside the caves, light and motion take over. Emerald reflections ripple across the water and flicker along the layered stone. Beneath the surface, submerged formations shift with each passing wave. The sound follows—gentle splashes echoing at the entrance, deepening into quiet, resonant tones within the chambers.
These caves are one of the Northland’s hidden wonders, where water, stone, and light come together in quiet harmony. It’s the kind of place that slows you down without asking.
“He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.” — Psalm 23:2
There is a peace here that feels guided—steady and intentional. Even in a place shaped by constant motion, the stillness remains, reminding us that the hand of God is forming you with events of life as well as the rocks of the Apostle Islands.
