June 9 – Two Harbors Historic Lighthouse
The Two Harbors Lighthouse, first lit in 1892, has stood watch over Agate Bay for more than 130 years and remains the oldest continuously operating lighthouse in Minnesota. Through storms, fog, and calm summer mornings, its light has guided ships safely into harbor along the North Shore of Lake Superior.
The life of a lighthouse keeper was not easy. The light had to be maintained in good and bad weather, often requiring sleepless nights and constant vigilance, because ships and sailors depended on it to find safe harbor.
It wasn’t the lighthouse that kept watch, but the lighthouse keeper. The light shone because someone was there to tend it and keep it burning through the night.
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” – Psalm 46:1-2
Who is your keeper? Christ has promised to guide us and keep us through the storms of life. What a blessed assurance.
