May 17 – First Light at the Harbor

Day 137 of 365

The rising sun peeks over the lighthouse seawall at Canal Park, marking the start of another beautiful day on Lake Superior. As the sky glows with the warm colors of dawn, a seagull glides past the lighthouse, making its quiet morning patrol along the harbor.

By mid-May, sunrise in Duluth comes early—around 5:30 AM—leaving plenty of time to savor a cup of coffee as a brand-new day unfolds. The peaceful scene often catches the attention of early walkers and runners along the Lakewalk as they begin their morning routines beside the vast waters of Superior.

Such is life in the Northland as the seasons turn—sunlight, birds, weather, and people each taking their place in the steady rhythm of creation.

“God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.” – Genesis 1:5

Each day is a gift. Take a moment to thank the Giver.
