Eagle Harbor Lighhtouse

May 31 – Guiding Light – Eagle Harbor Lighthouse

Day 151 of 365

Eagle Harbor Lighthouse is one of the most picturesque lighthouses on Lake Superior. On this quiet May morning, loons played in front of the tower as I drifted nearby in my kayak, surrounded by the crystal-clear waters of the mighty lake.

Perched along the rocky shoreline of Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula, the lighthouse has stood watch since 1871. Built of sturdy red brick to endure the harsh northern winters, its beam once guided copper-laden ships safely into harbor during the height of the region’s mining era. Today, though automated, the light still shines—continuing to guide vessels along Lake Superior’s often unpredictable shoreline.

For generations, mariners looked to this beacon for direction and safety. In much the same way, we are reminded that true guidance does not come from within ourselves, but from a steady and faithful source beyond us.

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105

Even on the calmest days, we still need the Light.
