May 5 – Swans on the Lakeshore
Trumpeter swans land for a rest as they pass through the Northland on their flight north to Canada. Trumpeter swans are among the most remarkable birds in North America.
These beautiful birds are the largest waterfowl species native to North America. They can weigh up to 30 pounds and have wingspans of up to 8 feet! Trumpeter swans typically mate for life. A pair will return to the same nesting territory year after year, strengthening their bond through synchronized swimming and beautiful courtship displays.
Seeing a pair of trumpeter swans glide across a quiet Northland lake feels almost timeless—a beautiful reminder of the changing seasons and the rhythms of migration.
“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” – Matthew 6:26
This verse reminds us to trust in God’s faithful provision. If He lovingly cares for the birds of the air, how much more will He care for us, who are far more valuable in His sight?
