April 26 – Sunrise Wakeup
As an ocean freighter sits at anchor, waiting to load grain in Duluth, local gulls — and the ship’s crew — awaken to a brilliant sunrise over Lake Superior.
That golden sunrise is more than beautiful — it’s a seasonal signal. Longer daylight triggers migration patterns in birds and stirs new life along the shoreline. Though the water below remains near-ice cold, the gulls float effortlessly, insulated by dense feathers and specialized circulation in their legs that protects them from the chill.
In a single frame, icy water meets radiant light. Migratory instinct joins global commerce. A quiet harbor becomes a renewal stage. Everything waits — yet everything is moving.
“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” — Psalm 118:24
Spring brings fresh beginnings, longer days, and the joy of light returning to the Northland. With warmer seasons ahead and color soon to fill every shoreline and hillside, today itself is a gift from the hand of God. Step outside. Breathe deeply. Rejoice in what has been made.
